Acer negundo variegatum
A fast growing, but fairly short lived, tree growing up to 25m tall with creamy white leaf margins on pinnate leaves. Both a male and female tree are needed for either to reproduce. A native tree of North America.
Acer(maple) — Five Leaf Maple
Acer pentaphyllum
Deciduous upright open spreading tree which reaches 10m. Has ash/grey bark and large 5 fingered palmate oblanceolate leaves. Foilage turns from pale green to brilliant orange/red tones in Autumn. Very hardy tree which loves moist well drained soils. Grows in full sun or part shade.
Acer(maple) — Canadian or Red Maple
Acer rubrum
Grows to 40m very rapidly which progresses from a Pyramidal to spreading rounded shape with age. Known for its stunning Autumn display colours which transform from a lovely dark green to vibrant shades of scarlet and yellow. Canadian Maples have grey smooth bark which highlights the red/orange flowers. This tree is easy to establish and grows under a range of soil and climatic conditions. Grows in part or full sun. Does well in moist acid soils. With extremely eye catching leaf fall this trees would be a wonderful addition to large gardens, parks and campuses.
Acer(maple) — Box Elder
Acer negundo
A spreading small (up to 20m) fast growing deciduous tree. Small yellow/green flowers appear early in Spring hanging on racemes. Foliage is light green with serrated margins and changes to yellow in Autumn. Box Elders often have numerous trunks with smooth branches and brown/grey ridgid bark. Young growth is tinged with a purplish/pink colour. This tree grows in a range of soil types and tolerates drought and cool weather. Suitable for screens and specimen trees in parks.
Acer(maple) — Amur Maple
Acer tataricum subsp. ginnala
The Amur Maple is a deciduous multi-stemmed woody tree 3 to 10metres high with a spreading habit and long branches. Bunches of creamy white fragrant flowers appear in Spring whilst leaves turn from a shiny green to red, orange and yellow tones in Autumn. Is a hardy tree tolerating drought and salty soils, however moist well drained soils are ideal. Pruning is required to keep the tree neat. Amur Maples make wonderful borders or specimen trees.
