Ulmus(elm) — Weeping Elm
Ulmus glabra pendula
A grafted weeping tree between 1.5 to 1.8m high with long spreading pendulous branches and a flattened canopy. Its large glossy green leaves turn yellow before falling in Autumn. Plant in sun or partial shade. Prefers rich moist drained soils. Weeping Elm is very adaptable and frost hardy. An attractive addition for small gardens as a feature.
Ulmus(elm) — Golden Elm
Ulmus procera vanhoutti
Moderate growing tree with a rounded dense spreading crown and multiple branches. Flowers are inconspicuous and bark is fissured. Its beautiful coloured light green/yellow foliage darkens throughout the year turning a brilliant gold in Autumn. Best suited to a rich, moist well drained site but is tolerant to varying conditions and pH levels. Golden Elms have showy coloured foliage and are ideal for contrast in larger gardens.
Ulmus(elm) — Silver Elm
Ulmus procera 'Variegata'
Large 25m x 10m rapidly growing tree with a spreading canopy. Its multiple trunks are covered with deep grey ridged bark. Flowers are small and inconspicuous. Has stunning variegated dark green to yellow/silver foliage which is noticeable throughout the year turning yellow in Autumn. Silver Elms are a hardy tree, preferring a sunny moist well drained site. Responds well to heavy pruning and very resistant to pests and diseases. This is a dainty looking tree with spectacular foliage and great form. Excellent for parks and larger properties.
Ulmus(elm) — Chinese Elm
Ulmus parvifolia
Medium to large semi evergreen open rounded spreading tree. Its slender branches and trunk have smooth attractive exfoliating bark which shows colours of mottled grey/green to orange/browns. Flowers are small and inconspicuous. Leaves are small dark green, serrated and elliptic to obovate in shape. Chinese Elms are rapidly growing trees which adapt to their surrounds and tolerate a wide pH in soils. This tree looks graceful and provides dappled shade.
