Is compatible with peaches, almonds and nectarines. Trees are very vigorous when young but begin to steady after a few years. Mildly resistant to some rootknot nematodes and waterlogging. Very tolerant to lime induced chlorosis. Produces a good quality tree which can be planted on replant sites. Recently become available to Olea Nurseries.

BP1 was bred by AF Dewat, late of Pretoria, ZA. It is a common semi dwarfing pear stock - up to 25% smaller than D6. It produces trees uniform in size with reliable heavy cropping. Bears fruit early, suitable for warmer regions. However, in this environment may require spur pruning. Best on sandy loam to clay loam soils. BP1 is suitable for high density plantings

D6 is a common rootstock which is vigorous and crops heavily producing large top quality fruit but it is slower to bear. Suitable to numerous soil types. It is good on lime induced chlorosis and copes well on damp heavy soils. D6 is resistant to fireblight, leaf spot and woolly aphid but susceptable to pear blast and has average protection to crown galls, collar rot and mildew. Overall is a reliable productive rootstock.
