Blue Hyacinth - Syringa x hyacinthiflora 'Blue Hyacinth'

Medium sized 3mx2m upright growing woody deciduous shrub which becomes more spreading with age. Beautiful large panicles of lavender blue fragrant flowers are produced in abundance during Spring. Has green heart shaped leaves. Blue Hyacinth is a hardy shrub adding brilliant colour to any garden. Makes perfect screens or hedges.

Origin: Public Variety.

Status: Public.

Bloom period: Spring.

Tree shape: Upright when young which then becomes spreading with age.

Flower: Single lavender/blue large panicle flowers with beautiful perfume.

Height: 3m.

Width: 2m.

Leaf shape: Heart shaped broadly ovate deciduous leaf.

Leaf colour: Green.

Growing conditions: Lilacs grow well in cooler areas. They prefer a sunny position in drained rich soil. Dislike acidic soils. Prune. Remove any dead flower heads. Maintain water through dry spells. Susceptible to frost. Plant graft union below ground level.

 

Disease: Suffers from powdery mildew and lilac blight. Pests include borers, leaf miner and scale.
