A small to medium sized (2x2m) deciduous shrub. Known for its beautiful semi double to double deep lilac/pink blooms tinged with blue in Spring. Flowers are extremely fragrant and clustered together forming a dense spike (12cm). Leaves are ovate and glabrous to 12cm also. Belle de Nancy bloom profusely and make superb cut flowers. They are suitable for small gardens and containers.

Origin: Public variety.

Tree shape: Medium shrub.

Flower: Pyrimidal, terminals, panicle to 12cm. Has small to medium semi double to double lilac/pink blooms with a touch of blue. Strong fragrance.

Height: 2m.

Width: 2m.

Roots: Strong roots.

Leaf shape: Ovate, acuminate to 12cm.

Leaf colour: Green.

 

Disease: Prone to powdery mildew and lilac blight.

Cultivation notes: Lilacs prefer full sun and are tolerant to frosts and extreme cold. They prefer well drained soil rich in organic matter. Dislike acidic soil. Responds well to pruning. Remove dead flower heads.
