A strong deciduous shrub reaching 3x3m which produces spectacular double mauve/pink fragrant blooms with a touch of blue through mid Spring. Flowers consist of ten petals and are clustered together in a loose panicle on a strong stem. Leaves are broad to ovate and turn purplish shades in Autumn. Alice Eastwood makes a wonderful hedge/screen but is also perfect for small gardens. A fragrant shrub admired by many people.

Origin: Public variety.

Tree shape: Strong tall shrub.
Flower: A double mauve/pink loose panicle with a touch of blue. A flower is equal to 10 petals and has dense clusters which are produced in copious amounts. Mild fragrance.

Leaf shape: Broad ovate.
Leaf colour: Green turning purplish in Autumn.
Disease: Suffers from powdery mildew and lilac blight. Pests can include borers, leaf miners and scale.
Cultivation notes: Lilacs prefer a sunny position in well drained, organically rich soils. They dislike acidic soils. Responds well to pruning and also remove any dead flower heads. Maintain water through dry spells. Younger shrubs are susceptable to frost damage in Spring.
Comments: When planting make sure the graft union is below ground level.
