This slightly spreading tree prefers well drained soils and produces large brown coarse nuts with good flavour in approximately early March. Versatile - eat fresh, blanche, roast or use in your favorite cooking recipe.

Fruit information
Maturity: Approximately early March.
Fruit size: Large.
Fruit shape: Oval with a pointed tip.
Skin: Light brown outer shell often described as a soft shell.
Flesh colour: Brown kernel, broad and coarse.
Flavour: Good flavour.
Storage period: Can last months in shell in a cool dark place. Once almonds are opened store in an airtight container.
Yield: Biennial - can thin tree in an attempt to prevent this.

Leaf shape: Leaves have fine serrated margins with acute tips, lanceolate, long acuminate.
Growing conditions: Almonds require rich deep well drained loamy soils with mild Winters and drier Summers and are quite drought resistant.
Cultivation notes: Plant in a sheltered sunny position as early Spring frosts damage buds. Prune annually thinning out and removing any dead branches in Winter before any new growth appears. Bees assist in pollination
Harvest notes: Pick when fruit splits
Comments: Birds are a problem in the home garden, attacking at many stages of growth.
