Beurre Bosc is an extremely popular pear variety which crops heavy and has good storage qualities.This pear is an all purpose pear - excellent as a high quality dessert or can be eaten fresh.

Fruit information

Maturity: approximately end of February.

Fruit size: Medium to large.

Fruit shape: Elongated and pyriform.

Skin: Russetted brown with a touch of yellow.

Flesh colour: Creamy yellow/white.

Texture: Coarse but juicy.

Flavour: Sweet and strong.

Storage: good.

Chill: High chill.

Yield: good cropper.

Status: Public.

Pollinators: Bartlett, Winter Nellis, Sensation, Hosui Nashi.

Tree shape: Large upright and spreading.

Flower: showy and white.

Growth rate: vigorous.

Growing conditions: Prefers deep heavy soils (loam) and to be well drained. Dislikes alkaline soils. Plant in a sunny protected site as blooms are prone to frost damage.

 

Disease: Prone to blight under warmer wet Spring conditions.

Cultivation notes: Prune dead wood off during Winter.
