A very popular table grape, small to medium in size with crunchy red outer skin and a fleshy texture. Has a delicious sweet flavour and is seedless. Ripens mid December to January. Excellent eaten fresh.

Fruit information

Maturity: mid dec to jan.

Fruit size: Small to meduim.

Fruit shape: Round.

Skin: Firm deep red and crunchy.

Flesh colour: White.

Texture: Juicy and fleshy.

Flavour: Sweet and tarty.

Storage: refrigerate of freeze.

Storage period: 3 months frozen. Refrigerated ; 7-10 days.

Yield: good cropper.

Origin: Native to mediteranean and central asia. Vitis Vinifera grapes were first propagated in California.

Status: Public.

Pollinators: Self -fertile.

Tree shape: Vine.

Flower: Small. 5 petals.

Leaf shape: dentate, simple or lobed.

Leaf colour: green / deciduous.

Growing conditions: Plant in winter in an open sunny site with well drained soils . (Loam to clay loam) Grapes prefer a dryer summer climate as frost damages new growth and rain splits fruit. Upon planting reduce branches by 2/3 cutting back to the bud..

 

Disease: Fungal diseases cause problems especially in humid regions. ( Downy / Powdery Mildews and Botrysis are all common. ) Zinc deficiency occurs in Alkaline soils. Pests include; birds, mites, mealy bugs weevils, rabbits, snails and light brown apple moth.
