Adam are a medium sized, rounded multi-stemmed tree. They are self fertile and produce medium to large sized fruit. Skin is blue with a pink/red flesh. A lovely high quality fruit.

Fruit size: Medium to large.

Skin: Blue.

Origin: Public variety.

Status: Public.

Pollinators: Self -fertile.

Tree shape: Can be small tree or bushy shrub depending on pruning. Open growing rounded crown. The bark is smooth/ grey and trees are multi-stemmed.

Flower: The fig fruit is actually the flower of the tree where the flowers and the seeds grow together forming a mass, known as false friut.

Growth rate: Rapid hardy tree.

Height: To 9m.

Leaf shape: Broadly ovate to orbicular. Lobes are elongated, dentate or crenate. 3/5 lobed, rough and irregularly toothed on margin, 12x25cm long and 10x18cm across.

Leaf colour: Bright green- tropical looking.

 

Comments: Fruit is susceptible to late frost damage. Two crops are produced per year. One in early Summer and another in late Autumn. Grows well in small areas preferring a warmer climate/ garden position. Root prune every few years with a sharp spade to achieve good results. Encourage new growth by removing 1 to 2 older branches. Lightly fertilise requires well drained soil in a sunny position. Drought tolerant and adaptable to a wide soil range from light sand to medium loams.
