Hass avocado - Persea americana

Hass is a tall upright spreading fruit tree which produces good quality, medium sized, dark skinned rough fruit. Hass have a unique cream butter texture and a rich nut flavour. Trees are self fertile but pollination can be enhanced by planting with other cultivars.

Fruit information

Maturity: approximately November/December.

Fruit size: Medium.

Fruit shape: Ovate pear shaped.

Skin: Thick rough brown/purple and black when ripe. Otherwise green.

Flesh colour: Greenish towards the outer and becomes a lighter yellow towards the centre close to the seed.

Texture: Creamy, buttery.

Flavour: Rich and nutty.

Seed or stone: Seeded.

Storage: good shelf life. If unripe store at room temperature 3-6 days.

Yield: Sometimes alternate bearing usually having a heavy crop followed by lighter crops.

Origin: Public variety.

Status: PUBLIC.

Tree shape: Tall and upright.

Growing conditions: Requires well drained aerated soils in a sheltered position free of frosts. Sunburn can damage fruit. Prone to dieback, root rots and fruit rots.

 

Comments: Tree fruits approximately 3 years after planting. Fruit ripens off the tree.
