Fuyu Persimmon - Diospyros kaki 'Fuyu'
Fuyu is a reliable heavy bearing tree producing orange/red coloured flat round fruit. Fruit can be eaten fresh or dried. This tree can also be used as a specimen as it has magnificent Autumn foliage. Red/orange leaves drop to reveal the striking coloured fruit on a bare tree.

Maturity: approximately April/May.
Fruit size: Medium to large.
Fruit shape: Flat/round.
Skin: Orange/red.
Flesh colour: A lighter orange than skin.
Texture: Firm, non astringent.
Flavour: Sweet.

Yield: reliable cropper.

Growth rate: vigorous.
Growing conditions: Plant in full sun and well drained deep sandy loam or loam soils. Likes slightly acidic soils and is drought tolerant but does require good watering over the growing season.
Disease: Suffers from scale, crown gall and dieback. Also light brown apple moth, two spotted mite, mealy bug, fruit fly, thrips and birds.
