Kaffir Lime - Citrus hystrix 'Kaffir'

Commonly used for cooking with its leaves, this variety produces fruit with very little juice and flesh. It is good for potting and suitable for most climates

Fruit information

Maturity: Summer fruiting but use leaves all year.

Fruit size: Small fruit 3-6cm in diameter, not generally eaten.

Fruit shape: Round.

Skin: Rough and bumpy, wart like appearance.

Flesh colour: Dark green.

Texture: Little juice.

Flavour: Fruit very sour with many pips.

Seed or stone: Seeded.

Plant information

Origin: Public variety.

Status: PUBLIC.

Tree shape: Shrub, good for pots.

Flower: white and blooms all year round.

Height: 4-5m approximately.

Width: 2m approximately.

Leaf shape: Double form - indented in the middle..

Leaf colour: evergreen, dark green and glossy.

Growing conditions: Can be potted in colder climates. Good in full sun with seasonal watering.

 

Disease: Can be affected by leaf miner. May suffer from mites and scale

Comments: Average water needs. Many sharp thorns is native to South East Asia. Pick off the second part of the leaf to use in cooking.
