Stella are a very productive tree. Producing medium to large sized dark red, heart shaped cherries, with a firm but moderatly coarse texture. Stella have a strong flavour and an all round quality. Eat fresh or cook - take your pick. Susceptable to rain cracking.

Fruit information

Maturity: Mid season to late. December/Janurary.

Fruit size: Medium to large.

Fruit shape: Heart shaped.

Skin: Dark red to near black.

Flesh colour: Deep red.

Texture: Firm, moderatly coarse and juicy.

Flavour: Strong. Good taste.

Storage period: Few days at room temperature. Canned or frozen fruit lasts several months.

Chill: High.

Yield: Very productive.

Origin: Cherries originated in Europe and Western Asia.

Leaf shape: Elliptic, accute tips, serrate margins, long petiole.

Leaf colour: Dark green foilage. Exellent Autumn colour changing through red, orange and yellow tones.

Growing conditions: Plant cherries in deep well drained fertils soils from gravels to sandy laoms, with a pH range between 6.2-6.8. Plants prefer full sun and air circulation to prevent ripe cherries splitting under rainy conditions. Avoid areas prone to frosts and wind.

 

Disease: Brown rot, Cherry Leaf Spot and Bacterial Cranker are all common diseases in cherries.
