A hybrid between a tangerine and a grapefruit the Minneolo is one of the most popular varieties of a tangelo. Although they often require pollination the trees usually produce vigorous crops each season.

Fruit information

Maturity: Winter months, mid to late season.

Fruit size: Medium to large orange size.

Fruit shape: Slightly flat, some pear shaped.

Skin: Deep red, smooth, tough rind and easy to peel.

Flesh colour: Orange.

Texture: Small seeds 6-12. Very juicy.

Flavour: Aromatic, both sweet and sour flavours.

Seed or stone: Seeded.

Storage: Cold storage.

Storage period: Does not ship well, up to 3 weeks.

Yield: Vigorous and productive. Grows in clusters.

Status: PUBLIC.

Pollinators: Self fertile, but generally needs to be interplanted..

Tree shape: Similar to common sweet orange.

Height: Approximately 12 feet.

Leaf colour: Evergreen.

Growing conditions: Prefers well drained soil and full sun. Can be tub grown, hardy and strong.

 

Disease: Moderately susceptible to scab.

Cultivation notes: Not strongly self fruitful, better when interplanted with pollenizers.

Harvest notes: Holds well on tree.
